CMG (Corrugated Metal Gasket)

Lamons Gasket Company's Corrugated Metal Graphite (CMG) is a high performance gasket for standard flange or heat exchanger applications. This gasket offers:

  • High sealability
  • Conformity where low bolt load is available
  • Maintains high bolt loads, upon re-tightening, in heat exchanger applications
  • Heavy gauge corrugated insert for support
  • Choice of insert metals

The CMG molds in place by filling in irregularities of the spaces creating a superior seal. It maintains the seal even in harsh environments including hydrocarbons and steam applications. You can specify CMG for applications where there is:

  • Low bolt loads or high available gasket stresses
  • Restricted area for flange separation making it impossible for a spiral wound type
  • A need to substitute compressed asbestos or non-asbestos gasket for a variety of applications

Characteristics

The CMG features the characteristics that make it the preferred gasket:

Construction

  • Corrugated metal of virtually any alloy with flexible graphite on both sealing surfaces.

Physical Characteristics

  • Corrugated metal core: 1/32" standard thickness (before corrugating)
  • Nominal pitch corrugations: 1/8" standard
  • Flexible graphite thicknesses: .030 standard, .020, .040
  • Surface identification
  • Anti Stick available

Application Information**

  • Gasket dimensions to ASME B16.21 (or special sizes)
  • Minimum suggested width: 1/2" radial for exchanger gaskets
  • Temperature limit: 975ºF with Graphite facing.**
  • Not suggested for use with nubin

Sealability:

Din 3535 Modified: < 1ml / min Nitrogen leakage. PVRC ROTT Test Gasket Constants: Gb = 534 psi a = 0.363 Gs = 0.5314 psi

Fire Test:

Passes Modified API 607 Fire Test, (witnessed by a major oil company representative). High Temperature Testing. Passed PVRC EHOT Test.

Crush Resistance:

Resisted PVRC Crush Test using 25,000 psi maximum gasket stress.

CM-PTFE (Corrugated Metal Teflon Faced Gasket)

Corrugated Metal faced on both sides with expanded PTFE (polytetrafluroethylene). The standard construction of a "CM-PTFE" features a corrugated 316 SS metal core. The design of this type gasket allows for a wide variety of metals to select from to meet special process criteria. The PTFE selection for the face material gives you the chemical resistance for aggressive applications.

Lamons "CM-PTFE" gasket has features that reward the user with benefits:

  • High creep resistance
  • Chemical resistance
  • Conforms to the irregularities in flange faces for a tight seal with low minimum sealing stress
  • Superior memory characteristics ensure that bolts remain tight so that re-torquing is not necessary

CM-PTFE can be used in temperatures of up to 500ºF (260ºC). It comes in standard pipe size and 150# and 300# pressure classes to accommodate ASME/ANSI B16.5 and ASME B16.47 series A and B pipe flanges. It is available in 1/16” and 1/8” nominal thickness. The versatility of the construction gives it the ability to be manufactured into different shapes to accommodate exchangers or other special applications. Lamons also offers similar gaskets with graphite faces called style “CMG”.
